Clancy takes on new role as trainee Accommodation Manager

Introducing: Clancy Martin, one of our four new trainee Accommodation Managers! Based on the Central Coast, Clancy has been with Brighter Access since October 2022 in a Support Worker role.

When expressions of interest opened internally for the traineeship, she jumped at the opportunity to further her career in the disability sector. Advocating and treating all people equally were qualities instilled in Clancy early in her upbringing, and later led her to find her passion.

I started in the industry as a Disability Support Worker in 2019 for acquired brain injuries as well as youth work. In 2022, I moved over to Brighter Access. It was one of the best decisions I made.

“When the traineeship was offered, I knew I had to apply as management was a goal of mine and I could continue helping and advocating for people from the background while deepening my knowledge and skill within the industry,” she said.

With endless support from Brighter Access Managers in the South, Clancy has enjoyed working with different stakeholders and our amazing Participants.

I have never felt so welcomed in a team and absolutely love Thursdays when we are all together for our local meeting. I knew I would learn the ins and outs of the industry from the best team, and it would upskill me in both my work life and day-to-day life. I also knew doing the traineeship could lead me to further opportunities where I could further support people in different ways.”

We asked Clancy to describe one moment that stood out to her while supporting a Brighter Access Participant where she felt she was making a difference, this was her response:

“It was the achievement of writing a condolence card. I remember nearly tearing up because I felt so proud of them because I knew how hard it was for them to write it, but they felt safe enough to write it with my assistance.

“In that moment I felt proud, happy, emotional, grateful and knew that this industry is where I am meant to be. I know to some it may seem little but it was a massive moment for myself and the participant,” she said.
