Tony reclaims his independence

INDEPENDENT: Tony feels at home in his Brighter Access SIL apartment in Newcastle.

In a bid to reclaim his independence, Tony moved out of an aged care home into a Supported Independent Living (SIL) apartment in Newcastle with Brighter Access.

While he said the care was great, Tony shared a room with three others and was hoping to find somewhere a little more suitable to call his home. Before surviving a stroke, Tony managed his own real estate business in Charlestown which complemented his interest and qualification in Engineering.

With a passion for rugby, Tony has been involved with the Southern Beaches Rugby Club since the late 1990s and was awarded a life membership in 2009. A past athlete himself, Tony even played first grade for the Wanderers Rugby Club in the early 1980s.

With Brighter Access support staff, Tony has been able to reclaim his independence and make his presence in the community known again by attending footy functions, accessing the local community, and working hard at his rehabilitation.

Tony’s determination and hard work has led to significant improvements in his mobility and speech since moving into his new home with Brighter Access.

Whilst out and about in the community, Tony enjoys showing staff some of the houses he sold whilst working as a real estate agent.
