Celebrating the first of many milestones with Leza

Leza celebrating her final day of cancer treatment with a bunch of flowers from her Brighter Access family.

In October 2020, cancer had overnight changed the way Leza lived.

Having gone to bed as a working, social and busy mum, and friend, Leza woke up with no speech or movement and very poor vision.

With great determination, Leza spent many months in hospital and rehabilitation making lots of progress.

However, she was still needing supports for all her daily living activities.

In November 2021, Leza chose to move into our Supported Independent Living (SIL) Unit in Wyong and has been enjoying settling into her beautiful home.

“The house is great; I feel very comfortable and very lucky. I love the girls who help me. They are fantastic,” Leza said of her experience with Brighter Access.

The highlight since moving in has been “having my family be able to come and visit me and having new things all around me”.

Our Support Workers have been assisting Leza to complete her daily living activities within her new home, and are focused on helping Leza with some goals she has set for herself; including being able to walk, spend time by herself and staying on her own.

Leza is a joy to have as a member of our Central Coast Brighter Access family and we all enjoy being able to drop in and visit - always leaving with a smile on our faces!

Our highlight so far was celebrating Leza’s final day of cancer treatment.
