Robyn builds strength and independence with hydrotherapy

WORKING TOWARDS A GOAL: Hydrotherapy has become a highlight for Robyn (left) and our Support Workers.

Hydrotherapy has helped Brighter Access participant Robyn build strength and independence, in more ways than one!

Two months ago, Robyn expressed her desire to rely less on her motorised chair for mobility and staff support for transfers and personal care.

With the help of her physiotherapist, Robyn began hydrotherapy and an exercise program.

Accompanied by Brighter Access supports, Robyn visits the local pool twice a week. The outing has become something she really looks forward to.

As Robyn works hard in the pool to build her physical strength, she has noticed great benefits to her mental health as well.

Robyn’s initial goal is to be able to transfer herself from her chair to the toilet.

She says she has hopes to set more goals down the track but is taking it one day at a time.

Robyn absolutely loves her regular Brighter Access Support Staff who accompany her to the pool and reports that they are kind, caring and help her to feel confident in the water.

She is building her endurance each time she goes and is enjoying the amazing health benefits of regular exercise and socialisation in the community.

We could not be prouder of Robyn as she works hard to achieve this amazing goal of greater independence and love celebrating along the way.
